Aspen Valley Hospital (AVH), an award-winning critical access hospital serving the Aspen and Roaring Fork Valley communities, announces the return of its traditional fall health fairs: the Midvalley Health Fair on Saturday, October 14, and the Senior Health Fair on Friday, November 3. Both fairs will offer blood draws, flu shots, plus additional, free screenings and information stations. All activities will take place 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. at each event, with locations differing by date. Registration for the blood draws is highly encouraged, though walk-ins will also be accommodated. The public is invited to register at aspenhospital.org. Payment will be taken at the event, cash or check only.

“Our mission is to empower our community members to learn about and engage in their personal health,” said Jennifer Slaughter, Director of Community Relations at Aspen Valley Hospital. “The health fairs offer a convenient and cost-effective way to take action.”

LAB TESTS OFFERED
Aspen Valley Hospital will offer four lab tests at the fair, plus a take-home colorectal cancer screening kit. The blood work requires fasting for 12 hours (with the exception of water). Diabetics should contact their physician regarding fasting. A paper copy of lab results will be sent to participants about three weeks after their draw date. As a reminder, participants’ personal doctors will not automatically receive the lab results. It is the responsibility of each individual participant to schedule a follow-up with their own doctor to discuss results. Each test is available at a great discount for the community:

Health Fair Profile – $65.00
The Health Fair Profile tests 32 metabolic functions: blood sugar; lipids including cholesterol/triglycerides/HDL/LDL; kidney and liver function; complete blood count; thyroid stimulating hormone, and more. Fasting for at least 12 hours with the exception of water is recommended. Diabetics should contact their physician for instructions.

Cardio C-Reactive Protein (CRP) – $35.00
Cardio CRP tests elevated levels of C-reactive protein that can indicate vascular inflammation.

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) – $35.00
PSA tests are recommended annually for men 50 years of age and older. A baseline test is recommended for men 40 years of age and earlier with family history of prostate cancer or prostate issues.

Vitamin D – $45.00
The Vitamin D test measures concise levels of D2 (nutritional absorption), D3 (sunshine absorption) and total amount of vitamin D to define, sufficient, insufficient or deficient levels.

Colorectal Cancer Screening Kit – $25.00
The InSure Fit Colon screening kit is a take-home kit that measures hemoglobin which does not react with non-human hemoglobin, vitamins, drugs or issues from food. There is no special diet required.

Blood draw participants are asked to arrive at least an hour prior to closing. Cash or check only. AVH does caution that all lab screening results are considered preliminary. A complete review and examination by a healthcare provider is always recommended.

FREE HEALTH SCREEENINGS & INFORMATION STATIONS

In addition to the blood draw, free health screenings and information stations will be available at both health fairs. Participants are encouraged to go to aspenhospital.org for the full list by event. Here’s a look at what health fair participants can anticipate: air flow and oximetry, blood pressure, body mass index, oral exams, orthopedic exams, skin exams and vision testing. Screeners include nurses, respiratory therapists, orthopedists, dermatologists and internists.

Information stations will address topics such as trauma prevention, breast cancer prevention and early detection, speech and language therapy and more. Participants are encouraged to arrive at least an hour prior to closing.
