As the summer hiking season approaches, the Forest Service would like you know what to expect when at Hanging Lake this season. The implementation of the Hanging Lake Management Plan and permit system is will not take place until the spring of 2019. For the summer of 2018, the Forest Service will continue to manage the parking lot and patrol the trail and outreach to visitors.
According to Aaron Mayville, the District Ranger. Great progress has been made towards full implementation of the plan and the new shuttle system should start on time in 2019.”
The Forest Service is still working through the process for the Hanging Lake Management Plan which includes issuing a Final Decision on the Plan and working toward obtaining a third party transportation provider to run the shuttle and reservation system. Both actions are expected to take place sometime this spring.
The forest service offers some local tips for visiting Hanging lake this year including
· going early morning or late afternoon for less crowds and a better chance of getting a parking spot. Also mid week the lots are expected to be less congested.
· They also ask you to remember that Dogs are prohibited on the trail and up at Hanging Lake. Swimming, fishing, and standing on the log are also prohibited at the lake. Please Stay on the trail and do not ‘cut’ switchbacks. This leads to trail erosion and vegetation damage.
Upcoming temporary closures of Hanging Lake:
· Hanging Lake parking lot will be closed for routine maintenance on May 16 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
· Hanging Lake will be closed for a week in mid September dam and trail work.
