Joint cooperation of the Glenwood Springs Fire Protection District and the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office quickly addressed and aggressively attacked the Iron Mountain Fire.
 
The Glenwood Caverns Amusement Park was evacuated as a precautionary step due to the proximity of the fire on Transfer Trail’
 
Fire crews walked into the fire and began creating a perimeter to contain the fire while they waited for the arrival of two helicopters to make water drops. The first drop occurred around 6:30 PM. After the second water drop the threat of the fire spreading was diminished significantly.
 
Two members of the Glenwood Springs Fire district remained on scene. Along with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Sergeant to assist in building a line of containment around the fire area with the BLM crews who arrived on scene. The fire appears to be on BLM land. Continued communication and operations will come from the BLM.
