Using monies from a one time only fund created by the state the Roaring Fork School District to assist rural schools is going to award teachers this holiday with some cash bonuses.
The School district received nearly one million dollars from the state’s Supplemental Assistance for Rural Schools fund, some of which will go to the district’s charter school, Carbondale Charter School. Full-time teachers can expect a $1,200 end-of-year bonus.
The state had set aside $30 MIllion for districts across the state. The stipulation legislators put on the fund was to limit its use to one time

An avalanche triggered by skiers at a JAckson Hole ski resort buried five people to varying degrees on Saturday, but the victims were quickly rescued, and no serious injuries were reported, a spokeswoman said. It was Jackson Hole’s first inbound avalanche involving the general public since a Wyoming man was killed in a 2008 slide at the resort Recent winter storms have left much of the Rocky Mountains exposed to increased avalanche danger, with safety advisories issued Saturday for portions of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.
