Around 2 p.m. on July 16, 2019, Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District was paged to mile marker 53 on Highway 133 for a report of a debris flow.
Upon arrival, crews found both lanes of Highway 133 covered in rocks, mud and other material. The road is impassable. The Pitkin County Sheriff and Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) are restricting access to anyone who does not live in the area.
CDOT is on scene with heavy equipment to clear Highway 133. The road is anticipated to open by 5 pm.
There were no injuries.
Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department and Colorado Department of Transportation also responded.
